Vfib Records is pleased to release this double A-side single from Richmond, VA's Maki! Recorded in Richmond at Sound of Music studios during the late 90's with producer Brian Paulson and, as is customary for vfib artists, sent straight into the back of the vault. Seemingly effortless pop perfection. Read 'em and weep.
Indicative lyric: "And you all look so happy holding hands/kicking the sidewalks/making plans"

FEATURED: Maki
Maki make power-pop for somnabulists. They write prom themes for dreaming drunks. They create soundtracks for people who care so much they can't be bothered. . . After the demise of former bands Soda and The Blow Pops, Tim Buckley (v, g), John Daniels (b), and Alan Weatherhead (g), gathered at Milwaukee's fabled Y-Not 2 Bar and decided to name a band after a pop-obsessed friend who could perform standing back flips when sober and verbal somersaults when not. After re-locating to international music mecca Richmond, VA, they hooked up with former Tweaker drummer Miguel Urbiztondo (aka Mickey Rodgriguez aka Mickey Rad) and the Maki sound was cemented -- lugubrious tempos, space-textured guitars, endless codas, elliptical lyrics and hooks forever.
Why have you never heard of them? Possibly because they are the type of guys who name the lead single from their debut album ("Tears On The Blastshield"/ Lunch Records) after the Shriner's slogan. "Let The Good Times Roll For The Crippled Children" indeed.
